A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is one of
the most popular cosmetic surgeries in Miami
Some think it’s a procedure reserved for women, but it’s pretty prevalent among men, too.
Tummy Tuck (abdominoplasty) is a surgical procedure performed to get rid of excess skin and/or fat in the belly area, while tightening the abdominal muscles.
A tummy tuck is different from liposuction and a weight loss procedure.
- Liposuction is removing only fat, while Tummy Tuck removes excess skin and tightens abdominal wall muscles.
- Before getting a tummy tuck, you will be asked to lose weight first, as the procedure will not solve any weight issues you may have.
- Men can also have loose muscles and sagging skin that remain resistant to exercise or diet, and that is a good indication for a tummy tuck.
Types of Tummy Tucks
Full Tummy Tuck
It involves a hip-to-hip incision on the level of the pubic hair in the lower abdomen. It is also combined with another incision around the belly button to free it from the surrounding tissue. That way, the belly button can be easily moved to ensure natural-looking results.
Extended Tummy Tuck
The extended tummy tuck is an expanded version of a normal abdominoplasty procedure since it also involves the removal of excess skin from the patient’s sides or “love handles” on top of the removal of excess fat and skin from the stomach area.
Circumferential Tummy Tuck
It is performed when there is also excess fat in the back, usually as a result of massive weight loss that led them to have loose, overhanging skin around their entire body.
Mini Tummy Tuck
This is the best option for people who have a small amount of abdominal skin to be removed. This technique only requires a small incision that only exposes a small section of the abdominal wall, usually extending from the point of incision towards the navel.
Endoscopic Tummy Tuck
This minimally invasive technique is performed on patients with weakened abdominal muscles. It makes use of an endoscope to tighten the patient’s abdominal muscles and suture them into place. No skin is removed.
Who is a good candidate for Tummy Tuck in Miami?
You won’t be able to get a ‘good to go’ signal from your doctor despite having one or more of the following if you’re a smoker, not in good health, beer-belly or have extremely unrealistic expectations.
- Sticking out belly
- Excess skin that sags
- Excess fat
- Laxity in abdominal wall
- Excess skin and/or fat that doesn’t respond to exercise and dietary modifications.
Tummy Tuck Surgery Procedure
Your surgeon will make an incision just above the pubic area. It will be hidden by undergarments, but it is important to know that you will have a scar.
A second incision is made around a belly button to free it from a surrounding tissue.
The skin and fat layers are lifted upwards to expose the abdominal muscles in order to have them closed together and sutured.
Once the muscles are tightened, the skin and fat layers will be streched back over the abdominal wall, and a new hole will be created for your belly button. Excess skin and fate are removed.
Tummy Tuck Recovery & Results
You will need to wear a compression garment to reduce swelling, provide comfort and support as you heal.
Drainage tubes and sutures are removed within a week or two after the surgery. Pain, swelling and bruising are normal for this kind of surgery. Your tummy tuck scars will fade considerably over time.
It’s normal to feel numb on your abdominal area after surgery since your nerves are still recovering and getting used to your tighter muscles. The lack of sensation may stretch from a couple of months up to a year, but it’s not supposed to be permanent. (Face+Body Patient Before/After Photo)
